ABOUT ME
Hello and Welcome to The Mood and Anxiety Clinic! I am Dr. Kiana Behnood, the clinical director. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist and The Mood and Anxiety Clinic is my practice. I first began in the field of Mental Health eleven years ago in 2012 with Mental Health Los Angeles working with underprivileged and underserved communities. It was during my MHLA Fellowship that I realized my career would be in service of others in mental health.
Moving to San Diego, I attended the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University where I received my Masters and then Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I have worked at a school for students of all ages with special needs, a college counseling center, inpatient and outpatient at a psychiatric hospital, a community mental health center, and a private practice in Coronado serving a wide-range of patients including military and their families. The experience amassed through the years at these placements has culminated into The Mood and Anxiety Clinic.
Here, we specialize in helping you overcome Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, substance abuse concerns, and interpersonal relationship conflicts between partners and families. We have helped hundreds of patients conquer these challenges and their fears and will help you do the same thing!

The effectiveness of therapy is large and reliably stable across a wide-range of mental health issues. Psychotherapy alone is effective for increasing quality of functioning. For example, some studies show that approximately 70% of people who enter psychotherapy to address psychological disorders benefit and experience relief from symptoms. This rate of improvement is comparable with the effectiveness of common medical treatments and is proven to increase when the right fit between therapist and patient is found.
70% of patients in psychotherapy notice a reduction in symptoms.
EXTRAS
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy- (CBT)
CBT has become the leading treatment for anxiety, and with good reason. Research indicates that CBT can be an effective treatment for anxiety after as few as 8 sessions, with or without any form of medication. Due to the high prevalence of anxiety disorders (18% of adults in the United States meet criteria for an anxiety disorder over a 1-year period), it's valuable to have a strong understanding of best practices for its treatment. CBT has helped many people get to a place where they feel like they're living the life they want to live.
At The Mood and Anxiety Clinic, we believe that nothing is more important than investing in creating genuine relationships with our clients. Honesty is our priority in treatment and even before, during our free consultation call. Most often we have the experience to help, but in the event we aren’t the right fit for you, we will point you where you need to go to get the help you need!
We utilize the most innovative, empirically supported Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies to decrease maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors that cause anxiety. We combine these strategies with an easy-going, casual approach to therapy to make it not only helpful, but comfortable and enjoyable.
